Access Control Systems

The heart of any security is “access control.” In one’s home it starts with a good deadbolt lock so only family members can enter without having to force the door open. Commercial buildings all need to control who comes into the building (sometimes those who come onto the grounds – by the use of fences and gates) for security, for controlling accident claims, to prevent vandalism, and, often today, to be in compliance with laws and regulations.

Obviously, locks are an important component of any access control system and we have developed expertise in door hardware design as well as installation of electric locks, and have done such projects at the Watergate in Washington, and Chrysler Building in New York City, as well as several hundred “turn-key” projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region. While most integrators tell clients to hire someone else to handle the locks, we take pride in a “soup to nuts” approach so we can even service locks after the installation is complete.

Rest assured we make our recommendations based on your needs and not a desire to sell one brand over another.

Coupled with locks is our knowledge of fire and safety code requirements which come from our extensive fire alarm business. So our applications engineers can make sure your system meets life safety codes and will “walk through the permit process” (required for almost any change to locks or means of egress at a door) and provide security while ensuring safety. And we will be pleased to explain these various requirements to you so you understand what is going on.

A hallmark of our access control division is the Customer Database Support and Training Department. From the beginning design, these experts are involved to see that your Protection Bureau system will work for you and with you. They develop the programming. They give your professional training in system management (or will manage it for you – see “MAMA” Services), and coordinate service to and related with your software. They are available by phone, email or personal visit to help update you and answer those questions which come along unexpectedly.
